Can I get proof that I am participating in the EmPwR Study?
We will gladly write a personalized letter stating that you are participating in the EmPwR Study if needed – call or email us to make the request.
Do I report the money as income on my taxes?
No, because the funds are a gift and total less than $18,000 per year, they are tax exempt under IRS gift guidelines
Does the money impact my eligibility for public benefits?
Many public benefits programs will exempt the cash gifts received during the study from your household’s income, so you do not have to include it in your reported income. These programs include public housing and housing vouchers, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Head Start, Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), various Medicaid programs, and more.
Your eligibility for some benefits program may be impacted by asset limit rules. If in doubt, speak with your benefits case manager and be sure to provide your proof of participation with tax and benefit information from the EmPwR Study.
